The average age of patients receiving orthodontic treatment is between the ages of 11 and 15. This can vary depending on growth and dental development. Most, if not all, of the permanent teeth have usually erupted by age 12. Crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites are easily detected and can begin to be addressed. As these problems rarely correct themselves and typically worsen after growth has ceased, the teen years are an ideal time to correct with orthodontics.
How long will treatment take?
We strive to keep your treatment moving as quickly and efficiently as possible. The amount of time it will take to complete your smile journey depends on several factors: the severity of the orthodontic problems, the amount of treatment required to correct these problems, and patient compliance. You, as the patient, can significantly enhance the process by having a great attitude, keeping your teeth and orthodontic appliances clean, following directions for rubber band wear, avoiding foods that cause appliances to break, and regularly attending scheduled visits with Dr. Fernandez.
