Most patients begin receiving orthodontic treatment in their adolescent and teen years. It is recommended to begin treatment between the ages of 11 and 15, depending on Patient growth and dental development. Most, if not all, of the permanent teeth have erupted by age 12. Crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites are easily detected and can begin to be addressed. As these problems rarely correct themselves, the teen years are an ideal time to correct with orthodontics.
How long will treatment take?
The amount of time it will take to correct smiles and your bite depends on several factors, including the severity of the orthodontic problems and the amount of treatment required to correct these problems. You, the Patient, can also influence your treatment time! You can help the process by having a great attitude, keeping your teeth and orthodontic appliances clean, following directions for rubber band and elastic wear, avoiding foods that cause your appliances to break and by regularly attending scheduled visits with Dr. Fernandez.
